The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has on Tuesday re-elected Reverend Samson Supo Ayokunle as president of the association.
The result was announced by Bishop Matthew Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, at the Ecumenical Centre, Abuja.
Ayokunle won with 59 votes over that of the runner up, Reverend Caleb Solomon-Ahima, President, Fellowship of Christian Churches in Nigeria, who got 44 votes.
According to the CAN constitution, Ahima is the Vice President of the organization, Punch reports.
Ayokunle had a humble beginning as he attended Oniyanrin Baptist Central Day School, Oyo State and late moved to Olive Baptist secondary school for Higher School Certificate.
He proceeded to the University of Ibadan for his first degree and postgraduate diploma in education, and later acquired a Master of Education in Psychology.
In an exclusive interview with Livinghope, he said “I have worked in different parts of the country. I did my youth service in Plateau State 35 years ago, taught in a secondary school there and also in Oyo State. I worked with the Federal Government as an administrator at the Federal Civil Service Commission, Ikoyi, Lagos.
“I was called to ministry and went to train at the Nigerian Baptist theological seminary where I got a Master of Divinity in Theology before I travelled out of the country.
“In University of Liverpool I did a Master of Arts in Religious Studies and Theology and my PhD in Liturgical Studies.” He revealed.
Ayokunle, who is also the President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, has been elected President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), for a second term after his first which commenced Tuesday, June 14, 2016.
