Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the kidnap of the Parish Priest of Saint Theresa Catholic Church, Ankuwa Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Reverend Father John Bako Shekwolo, at Ankuwa village.
Giantability’s Anne gathered that the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yakubu Sabo, revealed the information late Monday night to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna.
The police spokesman said the priest’s kidnap took place about 8 a.m. on Monday as gunmen were reported to have attacked him at his residence, taking the cleric away to an unknown destination.
Sabo narrated that a team of police officers, led by the Kachia Divisional Police Officer, some Police mobile force personnel and operatives from the command’s anti-kidnapping unit were mobilised to the village.
He said the dispatch of the police to the area is in “a view to combing the general area for possible rescue of the victim and arresting the criminals. The commissioner of police, Ahmad Abdurrahman, appeals to the general public to assist the police with relevant information that could help in curbing the menace of banditry in the state.”
Sabo urged members of the public with relevant information to assist by providing feeds that would assist the force apprehend the perpetrators.
In another development, the Chancellor, Archdiocese of Kaduna, Reverend Father Daniel J. Kyomm in a statement released to journalist confirmed the abduction.
“We regret to announce that one of our priests, Rev. Fr. John Bako Shekwolo has been kidnapped by unknown persons.
“As we ask for the prayers of the faithful of our Archdiocese and beyond for the quick release of Fr. Shekwolo, we appeal to the consciences of those who abducted him to kindly release him unharmed.” The statement by Kyomm read.
